We have a tradition of community involvement and charitable giving across all of our locations, aiming to direct our resources and efforts to the places where they will have the biggest benefits.
Our support is directed through our Corporate Citizenship Programme and the two Foundations. Our Corporate Citizenship Programme concentrates on three main areas:
Supporting our people to be active members of their communities through direct cash support and the provision of volunteering and fundraising opportunities.
Case study: In India a group of employees raised money for ‘Aseema’, a charity for street children, by participating in the Mumbai Marathon. The money they raised was then doubled by the Fidelity matching scheme.
Supporting the communities local to our offices by sponsoring charity fundraising events and providing small grants to local charities.
Case study: Over the last five years Fidelity Worldwide Investment has supported the Children's Trust, a local disability charity in the UK, by sponsoring two key fundraising events.
Supporting educational initiatives linked to our business such as financial capability and enterprise education.
Case study: Employees in Germany supported a local school by volunteering their time to help young people improve their interview skills and raise their career aspirations.
Our Foundations support projects with a focus on adding lasting, measurable value and enabling charities to reach new levels of achievement. These could include initiatives such as capital improvements, technology upgrades and organisational development and planning initiatives.
Case study: The FIL Foundation helped a social welfare charity in Hong Kong called Caritas to develop a new electronic payroll system which significantly improved their overall efficiency. Read more: www.fidelityfoundation.org
We believe that high standards of corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) will generally make good business sense. This means our investment decisions are guided by social, environmental and ethical issues when, in our view, these have a material impact on either investment risk or return. Our CSR Analyst analyses the environmental, social and ethical performance of the companies we invest in. The CSR Analyst works with our Equity Analysts and Portfolio Managers to highlight any material risks or potential business opportunities so that they may be properly considered within our investment process.
